xosaranda:

It’s Diablo’s birthday today. He’s the best thing to ever happen to me.
I love his little quirks.
I love him even though he likes to roll in mud and cover himself in it. I love him despite THE VET BILLS HE’S POUNDED ME WITH. :P I love him even though he can be stubborn. I love him even though he’s really spooky on trails. I love him even though he forces me to water down his grain every single time he eats.
I love the way he pushes his hay cubes around his grain and saves them for last, and you can tell the way he savors them. I love the way he throws his head up right when he sees/hears me and he instantly nickers. I love the way he always looks for my approval and how closely he pays attention to me. I love the way he rushes to me. I love the way he whinnies to me every time I pop around the corner. I love the way he puts his heart into our workouts. I come to his rescue, and he comes to mine. I love the way he looks at me and I love the way he nudges me. I love the way he lays his head in my lap when I’m sitting in his stall. I love the way he lays and he trusts me to sit up against him when he lays down. I love the way he saves my ass when I lose a stirrup.. but won’t save anyone else when they’re riding him and they lost a stirrup lol.. I love the ways he shows affection. I love the way he loves Evan. I love the way he looks at me with those big brown eyes. I love the way he rests up against me. I love the way he’ll ignore his food just to come up to me and stay with me for a while. I love the way he follows me. I love the way he plays tag with me in the paddock. I love his long, graceful strides when we’re galloping. I love the way he eats up the ground and I get lost in our own world when we ride. I love everything about him.
I love every little thing about him. All of his flaws. He’s who saves me every single day. He depends on me, and I definitely depend on him. I wouldn’t give him up for the world.
I can’t wait to see how many achievements we’ll achieve this year, and I can’t wait to go as far as we can go.
Happy birthday, big guy. I owe you so much.

Say hello to my woolly mammoth horse.
Y’know, sometimes Minnesotan winters are a blessing. Your riding becomes scarce and you’re forced to halt with your riding activities. The break gives you time to regroup with your horse and relax with him. So many people get caught up in their riding and forget the little details about their horses because they’re blinded by the little details that they need to focus on and fix about their riding. Like it or not, it happens to all of us. Don’t try to deny it.
Every night, I go out and sit in Diablo’s stall while he eats and I notice all the little tiny details about him. I’ve only had Diablo for about 7 months and it’s crazy how much I still don’t know about him and I absolutely love figuring everything out about him. I love the way he pushes his hay cubes around his grain and saves them for last and you can tell the way he savors them. I love the way he throws his head up right when he sees/hears me and he instantly nickers. I love the way he always looks for my approval and how closely he pays attention to me. He broke the straps on the back of his blanket and now whenever I see him, his blanket is crooked.
It bothers the shit outta me but god he’s adorable.

Since Tumblr isn’t letting anyone upload pictures tonight..

Diablo was super cute tonight, as usual. Every time that he walks out of his stall to go back into the paddock, he gives me kisses before he leaves. He ignores every other horse and heads straight for the hay while all the other horses fuss over each other. Haha, we’re so alike.

I had turned around to go grab Diablo’s grain dish in the tack room and all of a sudden, I heard a stall door opening. I turned and saw him peeking his head out, his head low, and looking at me innocently.

A quick introduction.

I’m Saranda and I own an Off the Track Thoroughbred named Senator Jacks, aka Diablo. To put it simply, he is my heart and soul and my reason to keep going. “He will never give up on you. Ever. He’ll be there for you. No matter what.” Everyday, I will post a picture/story/comment/video of him. Here’s your golden ticket to view him from a day to day basis.

Diablo is a handsome 16.2hh chestnut gelding out of his sire, W.D. Jacks, and his dam, Laughing Still. He also has Man o’ War in his lineage. On his face, he has a broken blaze with a marking that resembles a T-Rex and the little kids at my barn call him just that. I got Diablo on August 7th, 2011. I traded a lady my horse, for him, and also paid a dollar. It’s a long story of why I traded horses and it was hard.. but I’ve never been so happy from any other decision than the one I made in August.

From the start, I learned a lot with him. He acts like a hot shot, but he’s very sensitive if you take the chance and actually watch him. He needs a rider that is soft that offers a lot of reassurance. Yet, if you’re too soft, he’ll sure as hell take advantage of you. Also, Diablo will go out of his way to protect me from other horses as well as protect me from people who are messing with me. True story.

This year, 2012, my goal is to enter Diablo and I into our first jumping show, no matter the height. We’ve got a lot to do, but I know we can do it.
